Creating logo on Figma Part 1
Can you create a logo on Figma? That's a question that I answered right away with "You can, right?". We have shapes, there's a pen, you can edit the vector... So you can create logos. Then other people started asking me that same question, some friends and even people on the channel asked, and I started rethink about that. Then I made this blog here, let's see? Since this analysis will be done by me, I'm going to talk about my experience with visual identity. I worked for a long time with brands, I worked with packaging a long time ago, for a long time too, and I don't know if you noticed, but in packaging each product has a different brand, a different logo. Nescau has a logo just for the Nescau product, the Ninho milk, Coca Cola itself... omega, the popsicle... So whenever you develop a packaging it has a logo just for it. So that was a really cool experience for me,
I created a lot of logos from that, so I used a lot of tools. If you look at packaging logos, they're usually very dynamic, there is a lot of effects or, depending on the product, have different angles, so I've already used many of these features to develop that kind of product. I've even worked for a multinational, I made logos for their products, for events, so I'm just saying this so you know where my analysis came from, all right? I've been through some situations, so this evaluation will be made from that. So let's begin. We will start from the positive points. From Figma, what did I think it was interesting? So I wrote it in here. The first is the grid. I think Figma's grid is very interesting, in case you don't know where the grid is, go here in layout, grid. Very easy to find, I don't know if you are seeing there, but in case you can't, you can move here and put 100%, you can change the color if you want to, you can change the size, and the grid always... we always use it to develop a brand, so we can be able to make it in the right proportion, and it works really well. So this is a very positive point, I think Figma's grid is really cool.
Next point... The pen, which usually when we make a brand we use the pen, the shortcut is P, it's the same as in Illustrator, if you use Illustrator. I think it's very good, it has an interesting logic, I don't see any problem in it. I think it works really well. So if you want it, it's here. Pen, it's here. Let me use Esc here, okay. And to edit you come to... in the select itself here, move, or use V, you can edit as usual here, it's also quite easy to edit. If you hold I think it's Shift... let me check... Sometimes I do things so automatically that if i stop to think aout it I don't know what it is. Yeah, with Shift you can edit without moving, see it's stuck there? So it makes it locked. If you pull it more, it jumps like this, but it tries to hold, look. So this is also very interesting, I use this tool a lot. If you hold Alt it breaks the knot there, ok? So you can edit the knot as well. Another thing is shapes and selections. The shapes are easy, everything is there. I'm using the shortcuts. R for rectangle, O for circle. You can also edit them, the nodes here, pretty easy, so... there is no secret here. I also like the... I really like... all these tools here. It works great. It's so practical and I like this where you can, even if it's "fixed", let's say so, if you want to edit later you can, so that's pretty cool. The next positive point is colors.
The color manipulation in Figma is pretty easy too. You can use this document color here, and I will leave a blog where I talk more about how to work with colors on Figma, but it works fine, in case you want a gradient you can make it here, Figma... Oh! One thing that I forgot to comment, all I'm going to evaluate is based on Figma's native tools, so probably some of these things I'm going to talk here already have a plugin for it, so if you miss something just search and maybe you find a tool, a plugin, that solves the problem. Like I know there is a plugin for mesh, because in case you don't know what is the mesh, you can do gradient from... you can split, put the gradient here, you can batter change the gradient, better edit, it's pretty useful sometimes when you want to make a logo with some more elaborate gradients. On Figma, by default, it doesn't have it, but I know that there's a plugin for that. So colors, edit font. Edit fonts is also quite simple in Figma.
